A Cache County man, who allegedly shot himself in the head after fatally shooting his girlfriend, remained in critical condition Monday.

North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes confirmed that no change had been reported in the condition of Christian A. Emerson, 26.

About midnight Saturday, a passerby found Emerson and a deceased Amanda Lee Hoyt, 26, of North Logan, inside a parked but still running car near 1830 E. Canyon Ridge Drive in North Logan. The passerby reportedly called 911 and removed a handgun from the car as a precaution, until officers arrived.

Police said Hoyt was dead at the scene from multiple gunshots. Emerson, found slumped behind the wheel, was rushed to first a local hospital and then flown to a Salt Lake-area hospital.

Detectives say it appears Emerson, who had been dating Hoyt, shot the woman and then himself. However, the case remained under investigation on Monday.
