Davis County investigators on Saturday continued to search an area where a human skull was found in an effort to learn more about its origin.

After someone found the skull on a Fruit Heights hillside Thursday evening, authorities launched the search and by Friday afternoon had found more human bones and clothing scattered about.

A "very slow and methodical approach" is being used, said Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. DeeAnn Servey, who likened the investigation to an archaeological dig. She hopes the bones will help identify who the person was.

The hillside is in an unincorporated area along the U.S. Highway 89 frontage road. Servey said that a team of 20 search and rescue volunteers, sifting through dirt and leaves on their hands and knees, uncovered the additional bones and pieces of clothing about 150 yards from the skull.

Servey has declined to comment on how complete a skeleton has been found, but the bones are all believed to belong to the same person. She also declined to comment regarding clothing.

"The skull looks to have been there for some time," she said Thursday.

Servey said investigators will be on site until the recovery effort is complete.
