A high-speed chase Monday morning ended with a multi-vehicle crash that sent three people to the hospital and caused extensive property damage in Tooele.

The chase, involving police in pursuit of a stolen Mitsubishi Eclipse, ended about 9 a.m. near 400 N. Main St. when the Eclipse ran a red light, collided with an SUV, and then crashed into two other vehicles, said Tooele County Sheriff Paul Wimmer.

A corner coffee shop also sustained some exterior damage from at least one vehicle.

Police shut down Main from 400 North to 500 North, detouring traffic around the scene into late Monday morning.

The male car thief was critically injured and flown to a Salt Lake Valley hospital, while two other people were taken to a local hospital for treatment of less-serious injuries.
