A 28-year-old Pleasant Grove man was being held on $250,000 cash-only bail Wednesday after being arrested for allegedly having sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy dozens of times.

Utah County jail records showed that the suspect was booked on suspicion of 35 second-degree felony counts of forcible sexual assault, as well as one third-degree felony count of damaging jail property and one class A misdemeanor count of assaulting a police officer.

The man was arrested at the Pleasant Grove Police Station about 5 p.m. Tuesday, reportedly not long after he learned he was being investigated and came voluntarily in to be questioned.

The suspect, a friend of the boy's family, allegedly began sexual contact with the youth late last year.

During questioning by detectives, the suspect allegedly became upset, attacked lawmen and was wrestled to the ground. While inside a holding cell, he allegedly banged his head repeatedly against the door and eventually had to be pepper sprayed into submission.

He was treated by paramedics for a head laceration and then taken to jail to be formally booked, jail officials said.
