A 57-year-old man remained in critical condition Wednesday, the day after he was struck while allegedly crossing a dark Midvale street against a traffic signal.

However, Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the man's life signs had been stabilized, and doctors said he was improving.

A 911 call reporting the incident near 900 East and Fort Union (70th South) came in at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday. UPD officers were told by the driver that he did not see the man in time to avoid hitting him.

No citations were immediately issued, though the incident remained under investigation.
