Police are looking for man who fled after pistol-whipping a West Jordan store clerk during a failed robbery attempt.

The suspect entered the Quik Pik market, near 6973 S. 4800 West, about 2 p.m. Friday and confronted the clerk, who was the only one in the store, said West Jordan Police Officer Ian Adams. The suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the clerk, but the employee got into a fight with the suspect instead, Adams said.

During the fight, the suspect pistol-whipped the clerk several times, but lost the gun and his ski mask in the struggle, Adams said. The suspect then fled, apparently without any of the store's money, the officer added.

The clerk went next door to a dry cleaning business, and the employees there called for help. The clerk was taken to a local hospital to be treated for cuts sustained in the fight.

The suspect was last seen fleeing the store in white or grey sweatshirt and sweatpants, with bright orange shoes. He also had dreadlocks, according to the police.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the West Jordan Police Department at 801-840-4000.
