County commissioners in Utah have joined forces to honor and pledge support for law enforcement at an event next week.

Utah's Salute to Law and Order — which will be held at noon on Jan. 29 in the Hall of Governors at the state Capitol — will feature speeches by Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, Attorney General Sean Reyes, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams and Beaver County Commissioner Mark Whitney.

In addition, fallen Utah officers will be recognized and their spouses will be given the opportunity to speak.

Iron County Commissioner Dale Brinkerhoff, who originated the idea for a tribute day for law enforcement, will offer the event welcome.

"We need to remember each and every day nearly 1 million officers put their lives on the line to keep citizens across this nation safe," Brinkerhoff said in a written release. "Sometimes we forget the thousands of good things these people do."

Parking at the event will be extremely limited so attendees are encouraged to take the bus to the Capitol. To sign up for event updates, visit http://utahsalute.com

Beaver County Commissioner Mark Whitney said the law enforcement profession sometimes "gets a raw deal in the media," adding: "I think it's time we told them thanks."
