A third Utahn has tested positive for measles, health officials said Saturday.

The Utah County resident, who is under age 18, was in contact with two people who became ill after traveling to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park in mid-December, according to a news release from the county's Health Department.

This latest patient had not been immunized but did receive an MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella, after the two earlier patients became ill, the release said. It says because the person was under quarantine during the infectious period, the patient would not have exposed anyone else to the virus. The three Utah cases, all in Utah County, are part of a larger outbreak of the measles being investigated in California.

The Health Department says the best way for people to protect themselves from measles and many other preventable diseases is to be fully immunized. For general information on vaccines, visit http://www.immunize-utah.org or call the Utah Department of Health Immunization hotline at 1-800-275-0659.
