A man died Saturday after cars struck him while he was crossing State Street in South Salt Lake.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was crossing the road from west to east when he was struck by more than one southbound vehicle, according to South Salt Lake police. The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

The man was about 30 yards south of a marked crosswalk, according to police. The crash was still under investigation, and at this point police believe the impact with the first vehicle sent the man into the path of the second vehicle, said Officer Mitch Howard.

Both drivers are cooperating with investigators. Neither driver was injured, Howard said.

Officers were waiting to release the man's name until they can notify his family. Police could say, though, that he was in his 50s, and a South Salt Lake resident.
