The Weber County Sheriff’s Office in investigating after a woman’s body was found in Ogden Canyon on Tuesday.

The circumstances appear suspicious, said Lt. Cortney Ryan. But investigators are not releasing any details about how the woman might have died or what they suspect happened to her.

“We are making sure we’ve meticulously covered the whole area, though, in search for evidence,” Ryan said.

The body was found about 5 p.m. by people walking near 400 Ogden Canyon, which sits just west of the nearby Alaskan Inn and Spa. The area is heavily forested, and Ryan said during a news conference Wednesday that the woman was lying near the Ogden River.

Investigators have been combing the river and the nearby bank for any clues.

The sheriff’s office is asking that anyone who may have seen something suspicious in that area from Sunday morning to Tuesday afternoon contact them at 801-778-6631.

Ryan said the woman’s family has been notified of the death, but police are not releasing her name or age. However, family members identified the victim as Lopine “Chynna” Toilolo, 30.

He added: “We don’t believe there’s any threat to the public at this point.”
