Body found in Daggett County believed to be missing camper

On Monday, searchers found the body of a 44-year-old camper who has been missing for several weeks.

Leonard Corby “Corb” Fisher was found shortly before 11:30 a.m. about 2.5 miles from Brown’s Park, his last known location, Daggett County Sheriff Erik Bailey said in a news release.

Fisher’s Colorado driver license was inside a wallet found with the body, and next of kin was notified Monday evening once the body had been recovered, Bailey said. “Based on the location and the belongings found at the scene, we believe the body is that of Mr. Fisher."

There was no obvious evidence of foul play, Bailey said. The body has been sent to the Utah medical examiner’s office to determine cause of death and officially confirm identity.

Fisher, who was camping in Brown’s Park — an isolated mountain valley along the Green River on the border of Utah and Colorado — was last seen on March 31 or April 1. He was reported missing on the evening of April 4.

An initial search on the ground and in the air began the following day. The search was discontinued due to the limited resources of the sheriff’s office and ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Officials resumed the search on April 18, with help of personnel from Uintah County, Utah, and Moffat County, Colo., as well as search and rescue dogs. They continued to search Sunday, until inclement weather forced them to stop, according to Daggett County Emergency Management Director Travis Dupaix.

The search resumed on Monday.
