Woman shot in neck while riding in car on I-15 in Salt Lake City

A late-night shooting Friday on Interstate 15 left a car riddled with bullet holes and the woman inside with a gunshot wound to the neck.

The shooting was reported about 11 p.m. Friday on southbound I-15 between 1000 South and 2000 South, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Jared Cornia said.

The shooter, who was traveling in another vehicle, pulled up and fired several shots into the car, striking the woman, who was a passenger, in the neck. The gunman then sped away.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital. She is expected to recover.

It’s unclear whether the woman was targeted or the shooting was random, Cornia said.

Troopers turned the case over to the State Bureau of Investigation. They have not released a description of the shooter’s vehicle.
