A man and two pets were killed early Friday in a fire that heavily damaged a home in Taylorsville.
Crews were called to the home, near 3700 West and Valley Heights Drive (about 5000 South), about 2:15 a.m., Unified Fire Authority spokesman Eric Holmes said. When they arrived, firefighters saw the house and a vehicle were on fire.
Medics treated a young man who was found injured in the fire, but he died, Holmes said. His name has not been released.
A dog and cat also were killed in the blaze.
Investigators aren’t sure how the fire began or if it started in the home and spread to the vehicle, or vice versa. It’s likely crews will never learn the fire’s cause, as is the case with many residential fires, Holmes said.
Holmes added that there is a nationwide increase in home fires in the winter because of the use of candles and portable heaters, although it’s unclear if those items played a part in Friday’s fire.
