Police nab suspects after burglars targeted post office, high school in southern Utah

Three suspects have been arrested after burglars stole packages from a post office and electronics from Wayne County High School, police said.

Law enforcement officers first began looking into the matter on Saturday, when deputies were dispatched to the post office in Loa at about 7:30 a.m., a press release from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says. It appeared that the burglars forced their way into the building and stole packages and boxes addressed to county residents.

The next day, deputies were dispatched to the high school in Bicknell, where they also found evidence that burglars had forced their way into the administration office and shop building. Several electronic devices and an assortment of tools were missing, police said.

Three suspects appeared to have exited the area in a dark van pulling a single-axle utility trailer, the release said.

Deputies, assisted by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office and Cedar City Police Department, arrested two men on Monday, who are suspected in the burglaries. They were booked into the Iron County jail, the release said, and are awaiting formal charges.

On Tuesday, deputies found a trailer matching the description from the burglary at the high school, which police said had been stolen from the Loa area.

No additional details about the case were available Tuesday, due to the investigation, the release said. Anyone with information on the burglaries is asked to call the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at 435-836-1308.
