A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to prison in connection with a shooting and wounding another man in downtown Ogden last year.

Patrick Bobby Galindo, Jr., 20, was charged in 2nd District Court with one count each of first-degree felony attempted murder and discharge of a firearm with serious bodily injury, and one count of second-degree felony possession of a weapon by a restricted person.

In September, prosecutors dismissed the firearm discharge count prior to the start of a trial on the attempted murder count.

After jurors found Galindo guilty of attempted murder, he pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon by a restricted person.

Last week, Judge Ernie Jones sentenced Galindo to three years to life in prison on the attempted murder conviction, to run concurrently with a one-to-15-year prison term for being a restricted person in possession of a dangerous weapon.

According to charging documents, Galindo shot another man — identified in documents only as R.G. — in the 2700 block of Washington Boulevard following an argument on June 18, 2016.

Witnesses told police they saw Galindo run across the street to confront R.G. and then shoot him, charges state.

Galindo, whom police have said is a documented gang member, fled the scene, but was arrested and booked into jail several weeks later.

Deputy Weber County Attorney Chris Shaw said Monday that the victim and a friend were walking down the street when people at a party at an apartment across the street started yelling at them from a window.

When the victim responded to the yelling, Galindo and others ran outside and across the street, where Galindo shot the victim three times in the torso and once in the arm.

Prosecutors have said R.G. suffered critical injuries from bullets that pierced his lung and liver. Shaw said he still suffers from nerve damage caused by the bullet that hit his arm.

Shaw noted that Galindo’s girlfriend had testified for the defense that Galindo stayed with her and did not leave the apartment when others ran outside to confront the victim.

The Ogden Standard-Examiner reported that Galindo’s fingerprints were found on a .22-caliber pistol magazine found near the scene, and that the 26-year-old victim had identified Galindo from a lineup.

At the time of the shooting, Galindo was on probation in a case where, after shots were fired at an Ogden home in December 2015, Galindo came outside, fired back and then hid the gun he used inside the home, court documents state. Galindo last year pleaded guilty to third-degree felony counts of discharge of a weapon and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
