A Beaver man accused of nearly 40 sexual abuse-related felonies turned himself in on Friday after being wanted for five days.

Both Beaver and Millard County deputies had been searching for 43-year-old Destry Mel Stewart after the man skipped his Monday preliminary hearing.

On Friday night, Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel contacted Stewart’s brother, according to police. Stewart was with them and he wanted to turn himself in, the brother told Noel.

Stewart spoke with Noel on the phone briefly and assured the sheriff he would turn himself in, the release states.

Stewart walked into the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office at 7:30 p.m. and was taken into custody. He was booked into Beaver County jail on Friday evening.

“I have no idea where the guy was” before Friday evening, said Beaver County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Paul Wolden. “I’d love to know the answer, too.”

Stewart had previously paid a bail bondsman to put up the $160,000 bail for him to get out of the Beaver County jail, according to court documents. He also had violated a no-contact order, according to prosecutors.

Stewart is suspected of sexually abusing teenage girls, court records say.
