Police are searching for a Beaver man charged with nearly 40 sexual abuse-related felonies, who skipped his Monday preliminary hearing.

The man, 43-year-old Destry Mel Stewart, had previously paid a bail bondsman to put up the $160,000 bail for him to get out of the Beaver County jail, court documents show, and his lawyer told the judge Monday he did not show up for the hearing. Additionally, prosecutors said he had violated a no-contact order.

Stewart is suspected of sexually abusing teenage girls, court records say.

The Millard County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Beaver County in the search for Stewart. He is believed to have last been seen in the Wah Wah Mountain Range near Crystal Peak in western Millard County.

The truck was found in Millard County earlier this week, police said.

Stewart is described as a white man with red or auburn hair and blue eyes. He is 5-foot-7 and weighs 140 pounds.

Anyone with information on Stewart is asked to call their local law enforcement agency, Beaver County dispatch (435-438-2862), Millard County dispatch (435-743-5302) or 911.
