Man critically injured in shooting at West Valley City hotel

A man with gunshot wound to his torso made his way to the lobby of a West Valley City hotel early Tuesday morning, police said.

West Valley City police Sgt. Levi Lloyd said officers believe the man was shot about 4:15 a.m. in a hotel room at La Quinta Inn, 3540 S. 2200 West, according to a news conference that was broadcast live by KUTV.

An ambulance took the middle-aged man to a hospital, Lloyd said. The victim was in critical condition, but police later said he was expected to survive. No employees at the hotel were injured.

No one was in the room where the man was allegedly shot by the time police arrived, and they did not immediately find the firearm used in the shooting, Lloyd said.

Investigators have not released the injured man’s identify or the identity of any suspects in the case, Lloyd said, but police believe the two know each other.
