The Utah Highway Patrol has identified the man who died a crash on icy Interstate 80 earlier this week in east Salt Lake City.

UHP said that 56-year-old Ronald Murrock, of Bellevue, Wash., was driving an out-of-control Acura sedan that slid into the back of an SUV. The SUV's driver had stopped on the westbound shoulder to assist motorists involved in earlier slideoffs near Foothill Boulevard late last Monday night.

Murrock was killed in the impact. No other injuries were reported.

Troopers suspect speed and snowpacked conditions on the freeway were major factors in the fatal crash.
