Park City police on Friday arrested two suspects in a kidnapping and car theft case following a short foot chase.

Summit County sheriff's Capt. Justin Martinez said deputies responded to a report of a missing 11-year-old boy early Friday morning. The boy had gone out to the parking lot of a Snyderville Basin apartment complex to retrieve a cellphone from the family car but did not return.

Deputies discovered the car, too, was missing. They put out an alert to area law enforcement agencies.

Moments later, Park City police stopped the vehicle, only to have two male occupants flee on foot. Officers quickly caught them, however, and found the boy still inside the car.

The subsequent investigation revealed that the two men had grabbed the boy near the car, threw him inside and sped from the apartment complex. The men then stopped at a convenience store and attempted to buy beer, but were turned away.

Soon thereafter, as their continued driving in the area raised officers' suspicions, the traffic stop, foot pursuit and arrests took place.

Ruben Anthony Morales, 28, and Gustavo Vasquez-Nava, 19, were booked into the Summit County Jail on suspicion of felony kidnapping, aggravated robbery, theft and fleeing police.
