West Jordan police are hunting for four armed suspects who broke into a home and shot a man before carjacking a vehicle to escape.

West Jordan police Officer Randy Anglesey said a 5:38 a.m. Wednesday 911 call reporting a vehicle theft in progress initially sent officers to a home in the 3700 West block of Hillsboro Circle (6750 South).

However, officers quickly learned that the reported theft actually was a carjacking during which the suspects forced a woman out at gunpoint and drove away.

"As the officers were coming into the area, they also located a 28-year-old male gunshot victim, and a female from the home approached and told us there had been a home invasion," Anglesey said.

Police learned that the suspects — two Latino males, a Polynesian male and a white female — had forced their way into the residence shortly after 5 a.m. An altercation ensued during which the victim was shot in the leg.

The victim was in good condition at a hospital, Anglesey said.

The car, stolen about a block away from the home invasion scene, was later found abandoned a short distance away.

Anglesey said investigators had learned that the victim and residents had "mutual acquaintances" in common with the invaders, though it was unclear exactly what the relationship may have been.

"Who did what and why is still under investigation," Anglesey added, indicating that witnesses were not being completely cooperative.
