If that Christmas gift you ordered delivered to Vernal is overdue, you might do well to report it to police.

Vernal Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell said Friday that officers have arrested a 49-year-old woman and recovered "numerous items of property" stolen soon after being delivered to local residences.

Vernal officers were responding to a package theft report on Wednesday when they spotted a woman matching the suspect's description in a car and pulled her over.

Inside the woman's vehicle officers found not only the package in question, but other items of stolen mail and parcels.

"A number of the victims have been contacted and identified [but] there are numerous items of property that the victim has been unidentified," Campbell said.

Anyone in the Vernal area who has an overdue delivery is advised to first contact the shipper to confirm if it has been dropped off, and if so, to contact police at 435-789-5835.

Campbell advised anyone expecting deliveries to "be watchful and remove it from your porch as soon as possible."
