A teenage boy was in extremely critical condition Tuesday after being rolled over by a car that had just collided with an SUV in Kearns.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the accidents occurred at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday near 5400 South and 4300 West.

The 15-year-old boy, a 10th grader at Kearns High School, was crossing the intersection when a westbound Nissan Pathfinder, making a left turn onto southbound 4270 West, collided with an eastbound Nissan Altima.

The Pathfinder rolled, crushing the boy, who was rushed to Intermountain Medical Center.

The driver of the Pathfinder, a 24-year-old man, was taken to IMC in fair condition. The 46-year-old woman driving the Altima was treated for minor injuries at Jordan Valley Hospital.

Hoyal said no citations were issued as the accidents remained under investigation. Three lanes of travel in the area were closed down for what was expected to be several hours while officers gathered evidence and wreckage was removed.

Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsely said crisis counseling staffers were made available to any students who may have witnessed or been traumatized by the incident.
