A man in a wheelchair and his 11-year-old son died after they were hit by a car Saturday evening in West Jordan.

The 44-year-old man and the boy were traveling along 7800 South, when a car hit them near Mountain View Corridor (6300 West) just before 5:30 p.m., said West Jordan police Sgt. Dan Roberts. The sergeant was unsure whether the man and boy were traveling with traffic or crossing the road.

Two medical helicopters were initially called, but the man and boy died before they could arrive. Police were waiting until at least Sunday to release their names.

Another driver had reportedly stopped to ask the man and boy if they needed a ride shortly before the crash happened, Roberts said. After they declined the offer, the driver kept going and saw them get hit, the sergeant said.
