Ronald Lynn Elton has been appointed to the Grantsville Justice Court by the Tooele County Nominating Commission. Elton will replace Judge Darold Butcher who resigned Aug. 15.

Elton graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Utah in 1973 with a BS degree in Business Management. He received a JD degree in 1976 from the University of Utah Law School.

From 1975 to 1995, Elton served in the Tooele County Attorney's Office as a law clerk, deputy county attorney and county attorney. After that, he opened a private law practice and also served as a public defender in Tooele County.

From 2007 to 2011, Elton served as Grantsville city attorney. He also served as Rush Valley and Vernon Town attorney from 2000 to 2014.

Elton's appointment to the bench is subject to completion of the court's new judge orientation and certification by the Utah Judicial Council.
