A 21-year-old man accused of causing a three-vehicle crash that killed a Richmond man in September is expected to be in court later this month.

Kalin Menlove-McGinnis, of Tremonton, is charged in 1st District Court with class A misdemeanor negligent homicide and class C misdemeanor operating a vehicle without insurance.

According to court records, a preliminary hearing was scheduled for the man on Tuesday, but the hearing was canceled and a pretrial conference was set Dec. 15.

At 6:38 a.m. on Sept. 25, Menlove-McGinnis rear-ended a Jeep driven by 42-year-old Leigh Purser and causing it to be struck by an oncoming pickup truck, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The accident happened on U.S. 91 where the highway intersects with State Road 61.

Purser was not wearing a seatbelt, according to UHP, and was killed instantly.

Utah Highway Patrol officials have said Menlove-McGinnis told investigators that he was driving home from work and had only slept three hours during the previous 48 hours prior to the crash.

Menlove-McGinnis posted a $5,000 bail in November and has been released from the Cache County jail. He has been ordered not to drive a vehicle if he was released from the jail, according to court records.
