A dive team on Monday recovered a body from the Jordan River near 3300 South and 1200 West, where it flows through West Valley City — but the investigators were not immediately able to determine the gender, age or cause of death.
West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said the body was spotted at 11:10 a.m. by a city crew that had come out to inspect drainage pipes that have been installed in the area.
The body was mostly submerged and obscured by plant debris that had lodged against a concrete bridge support, Vainuku said.
She said the body was recovered by a multi-jurisdictional dive team.
By 2:40 p.m., the body had been removed from the scene and investigators were working to document and recover any evidence, Vainuku said.
Police said Monday evening that there would be no further updates pending autopsy results.
The family of Kayelyn Louder, a 30-year-old Murray woman missing since Sept. 27, reportedly arrived at the riverside at one point Monday. Louder's condo, at 500 East and 5600 South, is about two miles from the Jordan River.
Police declined to speculate if the body might be that of Louder.
Vainuku said only that "when a body is discovered, it is going to attract the attention of multiple jurisdictions" that want to see if it fits the description of any of their missing person cases.
