A Wednesday morning fire destroyed a West Valley City mobile home, which fire officials said appeared to be a total loss.

Firefighters were called at about 8:10 a.m. to the West Crest Mobile Home Park, located at 4015 W. 3500 South, to fight the blaze.

Two women and a child were inside mobile home when the fire started, but all escaped safely, according to fire officials.

The fire was under control just before 9 a.m., at which time crews took a defensive stance to protect nearby homes.

Officials believe the fire started in an attached carport, but did not immediately release what caused the blaze.

The mobile home is a total loss, officials said, and the home next door was also heavily damaged due to heat exposure.

Fire crews closed 3500 South between 4000 West and 4300 West while fighting the blaze, and the road was re-opened at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
