When Xactware's founder James Loveland passed away nine years ago, his son Jim took charge of the company his dad founded in 1986. Jim was in his early 30s at the time and managing a staff of 183.

Today, the data analytics company has almost 600 employees and continues to thrive financially, but what Loveland is most proud of is the fact that he and his team have managed to carry on his father's legacy of making a difference in the lives of their clients, giving back to the community, and most of all, taking care of staff members as if they are family.

"We've always focused on creating a great sense of belonging, and a great corporate environment," Loveland said. "We've got phenomenal employees. They're simply outstanding; and they are the reason we've had corporate success."

The Lehi-based company provides computer software solutions for professionals involved in estimating all phases of building and repair. Eighteen of the top 20 property insurance companies in the US, and 10 of the top 10 Canadian insurers use Xactware property claims tools, which feature software solutions for every phase of a building's life, including remodeling, totally replacing a building, determining the cost of rebuilding a structure, and preserving and repairing homes. Xactware also provides tools to estimate personal property emergency repairs.

Users of the software can work from a desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone, or on the Cloud, using browser-based solutions.

It may all seem a bit nebulous, Loveland said, but the software has helped restore normalcy to the lives of millions in very tangible ways, particularly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the slew of tornadoes that ravaged the mid-west early last year.

"It's our tools that helped claims adjusters understand how much damage was done, and what kind of reconstruction efforts would need to take place in order to get that damage repaired, and get people's homes back to where they were before the damage occurred," Loveland said.

It's a team of software testers, developers, project managers, customer support and sales reps, marketers and shippers that made it all possible. In fact, their hard work and dedication impact lives for the better every day, and now Xactware - named of the Utah's Top Workplaces 2014 - is seeking to add to that team.

"Once we determine that [applicants] have a certain skillset, and are teachable, we focus on the culture," HR Director Karlyn Norton said. "We want people who work hard and play hard," she said, "people who give it their all".

And they don't just give their all at the office; Xactware team members are also very active in the community, tutoring and mentoring kids in elementary schools, and volunteering their time and labor with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, United Way and Courage Reigns – an equestrian center that helps special needs children through therapy with horses.

Loveland believes he could search the length and breadth of the country and never find a team as creative, hardworking, caring and selfless as the one he's been blessed with at Xactware.

The excellent benefits packages and amenities staff members enjoy are just some of the ways the company shows its gratitude.

"We've got everything from a gaming area inside the building itself, to an amazing fitness center where employees can work out before, during, or after work," Loveland said. "We've got bike lockers, a sand volleyball court and two full-sized basketball courts."

Loveland also maintains an open door policy with staff and meets with each of the company's divisions over lunch every quarter to ensure he stays connected, and to foster open dialogue.
