A Magna man was charged with murder Monday in connection with the shooting death of a concert promoter who escorted him from a west Salt Lake City night club following a fight earlier this month.

Salt Lake County prosecutors charged Quincy Earl Lawson with one count of first-degree felony murder, one count of second-degree felony obstruction of justice and multiple second- and third-degree felony counts of discharging a firearm in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court.

If he is convicted of the murder charge, Lawson could spend the rest of his life in prison.

No hearings are yet set in the case and state court records do not indicate whether Lawson has an attorney.

Court papers say 20-year-old Lawson, who uses the alias Quincy Dre, was escorted from the club, The Core, 1444 S. 700 West, at about 9 p.m. on Nov. 15, by promoter Bradley Hancock after an altercation. Lawson and a friend hung around outside the building and when Hancock, 24, of West Point, asked them to leave a second time, Lawson refused.

Prosecutors say Hancock then threw a rock at Lawson, prompting the other man to pull a handgun and fire six shots, striking Hancock twice in the arm and once in the head.

Lawson was arrested by police the next day in Nephi and has remained in custody at the Salt Lake County jail. Based on the charges, a judge also issued a new arrest warrant for Lawson on Monday. Bail is set at just over $1million.
