Wildlife officers want the public's help finding whoever left half a Davis County deer to waste, hanging in a tree.

A concerned citizen contacted Krystal Tucker, a Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officer, about the buck on Oct. 26. Tucker found the deer hanging in a tree near the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in a North Salt Lake canyon.

"The front quarters were left, fully intact, while the back half of the deer had been taken," according to a division news release. "The antlers were still attached to the young buck."

A necropsy revealed a gunshot wound just below the deer's ears. Its throat had been cut as well, according to the release.

The division has no suspects at this time.

Anyone with information about the illegal wasting is asked to call 1-800-662-3337. Rewards are available and the division says it respects requests for confidentiality.
