Farmington • An April trial has been set for a Layton man accused in the death of his girlfriend's 1-year-old girl.

Judge Thomas Kay on Thursday scheduled an April 13 trial for 26-year-old Tyler Ryan Geary, according to the Standard Examiner of Ogden.

Geary is charged in 2nd District Court with one count of first-degree felony child abuse homicide for the death of 11-month-old Aliyah Wild on Sept. 10, 2013.

Defense attorney G. Fred Metos says he is still working with prosecutors on the case, but asked the judge to set a trial date.

Authorities say Geary initially told police the girl fell off the couch, but later acknowledged he got frustrated with her crying and shook her.

Court documents show Geary lived with the child's mother and helped take her to the hospital, where she died of a brain injury consistent with shaking.
