A Salt Lake City police officer and a suspect cut their hands on broken glass when the officer tackled the man and they fell into a glass door Thursday morning.

A different officer was talking to the man near 200 S. Rio Grande St. at about 9:30 a.m Thursday, when the officer began to suspect that the man had lied about his real name and birthdate, said police Lt. Scott White. The man then took off and the officer gave chase, with two more officers joining the pursuit.

The chase ended when one of the additional officers tackled the fleeing man outside the Rio Grande Depot, about a block south of where the chase started. Both men fell into the cafe's glass door, breaking the glass, White said.

The 35-year-old officer suffered a 1-inch cut on his hand, which will probably require a couple stitches, White said. The suspect also suffered a cut on his hand, the lieutenant added.
