Three men, including an ex-con now on his way back to prison, were arrested following a brief chase after a woman allegedly caught them in the act of burglarizing her mother's Cottonwood Heights home.

The woman called 911 Monday afternoon after finding an unfamiliar older-model black Acura parked in front of the residence near 2900 East and Banbury Road (about 7400 South) — and the suspects in the process of loading the vehicle with items from the garage.

As Cottonwood Heights officers rushed to the scene, the suspects sped off with the woman briefly in pursuit. but they soon lost her. However, police spotted them a short time later in the area of 2300 East and Fort Union Boulevard. As a CHPD cruiser began to follow the trio, the suspect vehicle tried to evade pursuit by weaving through several business parking lots.

Eventually, the officer was able to pull the vehicle over in the parking lot of a Rite Aid drug store. The men matched the descriptions given by the woman, and police allegedly found stolen items from the garage inside the suspects' vehicle.

In a probable cause statement, CHPD Officer Bradley Bailey said that after being advised of their Miranda rights, all three of the men admitted to having burglarized the home.

The men — ages 22, 18 and 18 — were booked into the Salt Lake County jail, where they remained Tuesday without bail on suspicion of second-degree felony burglary and other charges, ranging from possession of heroin to traffic violations.

The 22-year-old also was being held on orders from Adult Probation and Parole, having been on probation since pleading guilty in 2013 to burglary and drug-related offenses.
