A brief but tense standoff involving SWAT officers and a suicidal man who claimed to be armed ended when negotiators convinced him to surrender.

Centerville police had shut down two blocks of the Davis County town's Main Street, from 100 North to 100 South, just before 8 p.m. Thursday

Police had responded to a 911 call of a man threatening to kill himself at the Cedar Springs Condominiums complex.

After about 20 minutes of negotiations, the man surrendered peacefully.

Police did not find a gun.
