Park City • As the election results trickled in on Nov. 4, the Summit County attorney's campaign remained close.

Democratic challenger Robert Hilder, a former state court judge, took the lead against incumbent Republican County Attorney David Brickey and never lost the advantage.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Hilder said he will bring a holistic approach to the county attorney's office, so it's "not just one attorney working alone."

1984 • Graduates from University of Utah law school .

1995 • Appointed as a judge in Utah's 3rd District Court.

2001 • Subject of Los Angeles Times article about Paul Wayment, who committed suicide the night Hilder sentenced him to 30 days in jail for leaving his sleeping 2-year-old son, Gage, in a truck while scouting for deer. Gage, who managed to exit the truck and wander away, was found dead in the snow by searchers.

2002 • Los Angeles Times article wins a Pulitzer Prize for feature writing.

2003 • Hilder rules in favor of the U. restricting guns on campus.

2008 • Utah Senate votes against confirming Hilder to the Utah Court of Appeals. His nomination heavily opposed by pro-gun lobby, apparently due to the 2003 the U. gun case.

2011 • Retires from the district court bench
