The Fickle Finger of Fate remained undecided Thursday about, well, whether part of a finger could be reattached to the hand of a man who lost the digit during a fight involving several other men in Kearns.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal could not say whether the chomped phalange had been successfully reunited with the victim's other fingers — but the digit was transported to the hospital early Thursday morning, not long after the patient was admitted.

The brawl, about 4:30 a.m. at a home near 4200 West and 4900 South, reportedly involved five men in all. The genesis of the fracas remained under investigation, and UPD said details were slow in coming.

The victim, along with a male friend, arrived at the house and were set upon by the other three men with a pipe. At some point, one of the combatants chewed off the tip of the victim's finger and spat it out. The finger-biter and his two accomplices then ran from the residence; the victim and his friend went to the hospital.

UPD officers, responding to the scene, recovered the finger and brought it to doctors.

The suspects remained at large Thursday afternoon.
