The Utah Air National Guard will rename its base in honor of retired Brig. Gen. Roland R. Wright.

The base sits on the east side of Salt Lake City International Airport. A ceremony renaming the base the Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base will be at 10 a.m. Tueday at the base.

Wright, 95, flew a P-51 fighter named the "Mormon Mustang" in Europe during World War II. After the war, he was one of the first pilots to enlist in the 191st Fighter Squadron when the Utah Air National Guard was created in 1946.

Wright went on to fly missions in Korea and Vietnam and reached the rank of brigadier general before his retirement.
