A violent fugitive was taken into custody unharmed in Ogden, despite living down to his reputation by firing at police as they closed in on him Tuesday night.

Lorenzo "Snuffy" Puentes, 37 — whose criminal rap sheet ranges over at least a decade and a half, including weapons possession with intent to assault, theft and drug- and gang-related offenses — was the target of an arrest warrant issued on Oct. 8 by 2nd District Judge Michael Allphin.

About 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, members of the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team finally tracked Puentes to a home in the 1000 block of 28th Street in Ogden. As officers closed in, Puentes came out of the residence, allegedly fired a shot toward police and ran.

Officers did not return fire, but were able to subdue Fuentes after a short foot chase. No one was hurt, said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Adams.

Puentes had been paroled from prison in November 2013. The arrest warrant was issued after he allegedly failed to notify his parole officer of address and employment changes, missed a scheduled meeting with the officer, and did not keep commitments to gang-related and other counseling, and fee and fine payments.

He was booked into the Weber County jail, where he remained Wednesday, held without bail pending charges likely to include possession and use of a firearm by a restricted person, assault against and fleeing from police, as well a parole violation.
