Police are looking for a suspect in an apparent case of sidewalk rage involving a knife-wielding bicyclist and a pedestrian on an east-central Salt Lake City street.

A man told Salt Lake City police detectives that he was walking south on the westside sidewalk of 900 East near 500 South when a male bicyclist rode by, shouting at him to get out of the way. When the pedestrian responded that he had a right to be on the sidewalk, the bicyclist abruptly turned around, confronting the man and once more demanding he move out of his way.

The ensuing argument ended with the bicyclist — describe as a 50-to-60-year-old white male with a salt-and-pepper mustache, a black-and-red helmet and orange jacket — stabbing the victim in the back and pedaling south from the scene.

The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, police said. The suspect remained at large as of Tuesday.

The man was transported to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening wound.
