Salt Lake County is looking for private-sector partners to occupy the site now pegged for the district attorney's new offices.

The county's contracts and procurement office has issued a "Site Development Request for Information" about the 3.11-acre parcel on the northeast corner of 500 South and Main Street, directly west of the Matheson Courthouse and fronting a TRAX stop.

The county bought the site a year ago from Property Reserve Inc., the real estate arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for $9.1 million.

Mayor Ben McAdams said the parcel "has room for additional development, and we are going out to the private market for ideas about how to maximize its potential."

Governments often use this type of "request for information" to solicit partners about possible multiple-use ventures, McAdams said, saying this request "highlights the county's view of the project as a potential public-private partnership that leverages the downtown location near a transit stop and the opportunity to create a mixed-use development on the block."
