A car got stuck on a pedestrian suspension bridge at the University of Utah on Wednesday.

About 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 76-year-old man drove his Audi Q5 onto the sidewalk near the Commander's House — which is just north of Legacy Bridge, said University of Utah Police Sgt. Smith. For some reason, the man kept driving down the walkway and onto the bridge, which spans Mario Capecchi Drive between the student dormitories on its north end and the soccer fields on its south end.

"It appears he was a little disoriented," Smith said.

By the time he crossed the bridge, he tried turning down one of the two wide set of stairs that wind down to the ground, but got stuck, Smith said.

"They had a plan to try to re-enact backwards how he got there and get the car off that way," the sergeant said.

As of 3 p.m., the car was freed from the bridge.
