Two polls released Monday show Republican Attorney General Sean Reyes with hefty leads over Democrat Charles Stormont.

Reyes was appointed to the position after former Attorney General John Swallow resigned amid a far-reaching scandal.

Swallow has since been charged with a series of felonies in a corruption probe, along with his predecessor, former three-term Attorney General Mark Shurtleff.

That controversy doesn't not appear to have rubbed off on Reyes, who lost to Swallow in the 2012 GOP primary.

A poll commissioned by UtahPolicy.com, found that Reyes led 57 percent to 22 percent over Stormont, who works in the Utah attorney general's office. The poll conducted Oct. 20-23 by Dan Jones & Associates has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

A second poll by Brigham Young University's Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy found Reyes with a 47 percent to 27 percent lead over Stormont. This poll has a margin of error of about 3.4 percent, and was conducted through emails sent to people who previously participated in the college's exit polls. The voters responded to those emails between Oct. 15 and Oct. 22.
