A teenager was shot early Saturday in a McDonald's parking lot in West Valley City in what appears to be a gang-related incident, police said.

The victim, who was struck in the leg, was taken to a hospital by two friends. His injury is non-life threatening, Lt. Dalan Taylor of the West Valley City Police Department said.

The teen told investigators he was walking through the parking lot at 3464 W. 3500 South about 2:25 a.m. when a black compact car pulled up, Taylor said.

He said the occupants made gang-related comments and then one of them fired a handgun from inside the vehicle. Police received calls about multiple shots being fired, Taylor said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the police.
