A former Kane County corrections officer accused of engaging in sex with an underaged boy will make his initial court appearance next month.

According to a 6th District Court probable cause statement, 28-year-old Tyler C. Fox, of Kanab, contacted a 15-year-old boy first through Facebook and then cellphone text messages. Fox allegedly discussed same-sex attractions with the youth and arranged a Sept. 24 sexual encounter in Hog Canyon.

Prosecutors allege the relationship was discovered when the boy's father, picked up his son's cellphone, turned it on and allegedly discovered explicit text messages between Fox and the youth.

The father, impersonating his son, then began a text conversation with Fox that allegedly ended with Fox sending him a photo of his genitalia. The father then called police.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office first interviewed the boy, then called Fox in for questioning. After being advised of his Miranda rights, Fox eventually confessed to the encounter with the boy, whom he claimed he thought was 17 years old.

Fox also admitted to sending nude pictures of himself to two other male juveniles, though he insisted he had not had sex with them.

Fox was arrested on Oct. 6, being released on $46,950 bond later the same day. He faces charges ranging from multiple third-degree felony counts of unlawful sexual activity and conduct with a minor and dealing harmful (pornographic) materials with a minor to class A misdemeanor counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old and sexual abuse of a minor.

Fox is scheduled to make his first court appearance on the charges Nov. 13 before District Judge Marvin Bagley.
