Draper • The City Council unanimously approved the appointment of five members to a newly created Traverse Ridge Special Service District Board as well as updates to the city's snow-and-ice-control policies and procedures.

The board is an advisory one and members do not have to be sworn in because they have no authority to act, said City Manager Dave Dobbins. The board will, however, aid the city in the transition to a new administrative board that will have power to make decisions.

"Our intent is to meet with them [advisory board] on a regular basis to start transition over to the administrative control board," Dobbins said.

Mayor Troy Walker picked the five board members from 19 residents of the Sun Crest/Traverse Ridge neighborhoods who applied. Those five were approved Tuesday night by the City Council.

Amy Baird, Blaine Carlton, Nathan Lunstad, Greg Nuzman, and Sharon Ullman will comprise the TRSSD board and Walker believes these individuals will help the board move in the right direction.

"These folks, I just want to say, are all very qualified and their willingness to serve and be involved is impressive and I think it speaks well for all of us in the city that they're willing to get involved and join us in beating our heads against the public service wall," Walker said.

The next item on the agenda was the update of Draper's snow and ice control policies and procedures, which were presented to the City Council by Draper's Interim City Engineer Glade Robbins.

"It has been some time since we updated these policies so we thought we better bring them up to our current way that we do address snow and ice removal on our public streets," Robbins said.

The new update includes the three priority areas in Draper that will be plowed first during the snow season and offers no dramatic changes: beginning with arterial roads and major collectors, then minor subdivision collectors and residencial through streets, followed by cul-de-sacs and other deadends.

"We're just documenting the procedures we're doing now," Robbins said.

Councilmember Alan Summerhays thinks it's a good practice to set the policy in black and white so community members can understand the priorities of the city when it comes to snow and ice removal.

The updates will also include information on those responsible for specific task and their contact information. Mayor Walker jokingly said his name will not appear on that list.
