Police have identified the victim of a hit-and-run crash on southwestern Utah's Old Highway 91 as a 57-year-old St. George man.

Santa Clara-Ivins Police Officer Chad Holt said that cyclist Steven Jed Canfield, reportedly a polio survivor using a hand-powered bicycle-wheelchair device, was killed instantly when he was struck by the vehicle near mile marker 20 about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Holt said on Wednesday that police had identified a suspect and the vehicle in the incident and were working to locate and question the driver.

The collision was believed to have been at high speed, since it caused massive injuries to Canfield and spread bicycle parts and debris over a wide area. Due to those circumstances, police could not initially determine whether the victim's bike was equipped with lights or if he was wearing reflective clothing, Holt said.
