A cyclist died Tuesday night after a vehicle allegedly struck him in Washington County.

About 8 p.m., a passer-by found the fallen cyclist on Old Highway 91 near mile marker 20, said Santa Clara-Ivins Police Officer Chad Holt. The passer-by called 911 immediately, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators did not immediately have any suspects or witnesses to the crash. But as of 10:50 p.m., police believed that they had identified a suspect who allegedly struck the cyclist with a vehicle and were planning to follow up on that lead, Holt said.

Police are waiting to identify the man until they can notify his family. Though he's a Utahn, he is not believed to be from the area, Holt said.

The officer did not immediately know whether the man had been wearing a helmet.
