A reportedly armed and suicidal man was shot and killed by Roy police Tuesday morning.

Officers arrived at a Roy home near 3500 W. 5300 South about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday after the man had called a suicide hotline, said Weber County Attorney Dee Smith, whose office is handling the investigation.

Officers tried negotiating with the man for several hours, but he had a gun and died after "shots were fired," Smith said.

Citing the ongoing investigation, Smith said he could not disclose details about the shooting, including whether the man fired any shots or how many shots the officers fired. Three officers are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Investigators are waiting to release the man's name and age until they can notify his family.

Smith said the man had a connection to the Roy home where the shooting occurred, but it may not have been his residence.
