In this day and age of bitter and often childish partisan squabbling, we are in desperate need of more elected officials who are willing to work across party lines in order to get the job done. Republican Salt Lake County Councilwoman Aimee Winder Newton has promised to make bipartisan collaboration a priority if re-elected. In addition, Newton has also pledged to fight against wateful spending and champion government transparency.

In the short time she has been in office, Newton has made inroads to improve constituent outreach by starting a county council blog and co-sponsored legislation to protect open space along the Jordan River.

Newton's common-sense and inclusive approach to issues would be an asset for Salt Lake County. As an active Democrat, I am proud to support Aimee Winder Newton for re-election. I urge the residents of County Council District 3 to do so as well.
